Sanganer is located nearly 15 kms from Pink city Jaipur on the Tonk Road. It is famous for hand printed textiles and handicrafts. It is the largest center of the handmade paper and hand printed textiles using the single block of wood.

About Sanganer

Sanganer is a small town around 15 km from the walled city of Jaipur. It is an extension area of the modern Jaipur and is a fast growing town. This was a village few years back but as of now the extensive development taking place, it is slowly transforming to be the next residential hub. It lies adjacent to Mansarovar, which is the largest residential colony of India and it ranks second in Asia.

On one side lies another housing project, the Pratap Nagar which a fast developing neighborhood and it will soon trip Mansarovar to second place in India. The Sitapura industrial which houses the software firms, educational institutes and many other big names is the industrial hub of the city.

Sanganer Famous For

The town of Sanganer is famous for hand block prints on textiles and paper industry. This has some of the biggest small scale industries which deal in handicrafts, paper manufacture works, textile printing and even cotton mills to churn out the readymade fabrics. The Hand block printing work of Sanganer received the geographical indication (GI) tag in 2010

The religious aspect of the town is pretty important too. There are some beautiful Jain temples in this part of Jaipur, history of which date back to medieval era. The most famous of them is the Digambar Jain temple. Shri Digambara Jain has fine carvings that are comparable to the Dilwara Temples of Mount Abu.

Sanganer Demography

The town is a suburb of Jaipur and it got the name after the king Sanga of Mewar who was a powerful ruler. The population consists of nearly all communities but the majority of the share is of Jain community and Muslims. It is a politically active area and is the home of former Rajya Sabha Member Krishan Lal Balmiki. The town spreads along the Tonk road, a National Highway which bisects the city of Jaipur.

How to Reach Sanganer

It is directly connected to all parts of the Rajasthan and is an forms an integral part of Jaipur City Bus service route. The international airport of Jaipur lies here. The neighborhood is famous for cheaper accommodation and this part is the last link which connects rural Jaipur to the urban ones. The are many farm houses around the Jaipur-Ajmer highway which passes through Sanganer.
