The city got its name after its founder his erstwhile Maharaja Jai Singh who was the king of the state and was he constructed a city around his fort, today known as the Amber fort. The city of Jaipur can be broadly divided into two parts, the new city and the Walled city. While the new city has all the element of modernity, the walled city is famous for its architecture and monuments and also for the local market. The walled city is protected by a boundary wall build at ancient time to protect the subject from the invasions. The wall has four gates towards the four directions named as Chandpole (the moon gate) , Suraj pole( the Sun gate) , Ajmeri gate and Sanganeri gate all of which originate from the central fort. the streets of walled city are famous for their respective markets like the Jauhari market , which is famous for the jewelries and the Chaura Rasta is famous for the artifacts and handmade embroider sarees and dress materials. The famous Albert hall is situated nearby which is a must visit place. The Amber fort and the Albert hall has been included in the UNESCO world heritage sites along with many others prominent structures from the city.
